The GPIO port uses a male M8 Sensor/Actuator Connector and can be used as input and output. The input always senses the voltage level on the signal pin. At the same time the output can drive the signal pin high. Consequently the input always reads 'high' when the output is set to 'high' and sufficient supply voltage (12-24V) is connected.
