Common Calibration ErrorsΒΆ
The following table shows some characteristic error distributions for common calibration errors. Most of them can be improved with a dynamic recalibration without calibrating the camera completely.
Error |
Description |
Example Error Distribution in Left Image |
Example Error Distribution in Right Image |
---|---|---|---|
None |
Very small error lines indicate a good calibration. |
||
Epipolar Angle |
Systematic errors pointing up and down. Enable the background recalibrator or perform a dynamic recalibration to fix this error. |
||
Vergence Angle |
Systematic errors pointing inwards or outwards on the pattern. Perform a dynamic recalibration to fix this error. Note that a similar error distribution can also be caused by an incorrect focal length or baseline. In that case a full recalibration might be required to improve the error. |
||
Optical Axis Angle |
Systematic errors pointing in a circle on the pattern. Perform a dynamic recalibration to fix this error. |
||
Other |
Relatively large, but non-systematic errors pointing in random directions on the pattern. Perform a full recalibration to improve this error. |
